Dr John White

Dr John White is an Associated Professor in Wildlife Ecology at Deakin University, Australia. Dr White has a passion for wildlife ecology, with interests in disturbance processes and how biodiversity responds to them. Because of this, much of his research has focused on invasive species, the impact of urbanisation, and the response of systems to fire.

Dr White has a long-term collaborative research project with Parks Victoria in the Grampians National Park investigating fire, climate change & small mammals. This project was established in 2008, and continues to this day, after initially thinking it would be only for 1 year.

This research is documenting how small mammals respond to fire and a changing climate. Dr White and his team are looking into possible solutions on how we can protect these little critters for the long run. All of the project updates can be found on Twitter @Wild_Gramps.

How Little Critters Cope With Climate Change? The Grampians Long-Term Fire, Climate and Small Mammal's Project.

Dr John White discusses the impacts of climate change on rainfall, fire and vegetation and the response of ecosystems in particular small mammals. The Grampians National Park is used as a model landscape to study and report the effects of climate change on ecosystems. Small mammals are used as a model to study these changes and their impacts.
